I sat down with Nichola who heads up design and development here at Hatterist. Nichola recently finished a project for lululemon. As part of the design process, she immersed herself in the lululemon culture, to understand their DNA, which inspired her to create a revolutionary baseball design. The finished hats look, feel, and perform better, they fit perfectly with lululemon’s ethos.
Even before the Covid pandemic, comfort had become a keyword in the fashion industry, with performance textiles enabling the rise in athleisure popularity. Sportswear clothing is no longer just for working out. It's designed to transition to the street, making it more versatile, comfortable, and fashionable. At the forefront of this movement is lululemon, a technical athletic apparel brand designing gear for yoga, run, training and everything in between—but they’re more than just that. By implementing the brands' vision into headwear, I designed the SurroundStretch™ baseball, the world’s first sweatbandless baseball hat. The baseballs deliver comfort and a distraction-free fit due to its 4-way stretch called SurroundStretch™, you get the 360-degree flexibility and a snug fit, without feeling constricted. Giving your head a, 'Hugged Sensation' that is both relaxing and comforting. The majority of baseballs in the market are constructed the same way with taped seams and a rigid sweatband. The 'License to Train' baseballs have zero distraction coverstitch seams and no sweatband because of the functionality of the fabric. Making these baseballs extraordinarily comfortable and with seams that do not restrict the fabric's elasticity like traditional seams. On top of all the other functionality, the hats have 360 Degree Sweat-Wicking, making these baseballs the ultimate baseball hat for both performance and comfort.
